Maya Borisov is a NJ/NYC based composer studying at the Manhattan School of Music. Since she started taking piano lessons and composing at around five years old, Maya has dabbled in many musical idioms. She is a soprano who has taken seven years of voice lessons, spent almost ten years singing in choirs, performed in at least five musicals, taken a few jazz courses, listens to a wide array of popular music, and has been interested in musical traditions around the world from an early age. For Maya, being a well-rounded musician means being passionate about music in all its forms and her compositions have a variety of different influences—her favorite composers being Maurice Ravel, Steve Reich, Stephen Sondheim, and Joni Mitchell.

At the Westminster Conservatory of Music, Maya studied composition with Dr. Craig Levesque from 2017 to 2022 and graduated with high honors from the Honors Music Program with a composition and voice double major. In the winter of 2020, she won the scholarship for achievement in composition, covering a semester’s worth of lessons. That summer Maya participated in the Curtis Institute Young Artist Summer Program, and has since attended the Atlantic Music Festival (2021) and the Brevard Music Center (2024). At these summer programs she had lessons with notable composers like David Ludwig, Nina C. Young, Linda Wagner, Zhou Long, Reiko Fueting, and David Dzubay. At the Manhattan School of Music, Maya studies with Dr. J. Mark Stambaugh and was previously a student of Dr. Nirmali Fenn.
